In 2016, the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults more than doubled. The rate of stimulant use followed suit. The perception of ADHD has also shifted over the last decade. In the past, ADHD was regarded as something people grow out of and now researchers are evaluating data from adolescents to apply to adults. ADHD presents differently in adults and thus the therapies also have differences. This session will examine special considerations for treating adults with ADHD.
Learning Objectives:
Compare and contrast the presentation of ADHD in children and ADHD in adults.
Given a patient case, develop an appropriate monitoring plan for stimulants for ADHD, taking into account patient-specific factors.
Characterize common disease, food, and drug interactions to consider in individuals taking stimulants.
