How confident are you that every prescription you dispense for an animal is safe? Pharmacists spend ample time learning appropriateness of drug, dose and route for humans, but veterinary pharmacy is a different animal! This session will review the most common prescriptions you’ll encounter, and common errors that are made in veterinary pharmacy to help ensure your fur-babies are kept safe.

Identify the most commonly prescribed medications dispensed for non-human patients in mainstream community pharmacy.
Describe drug selection for non-human prescriptions, as well as legal and ethical considerations.
Recognize types of errors that could occur when dispensing medications for non-human patients.
Identify resources to assist with the safe and efficacious dispensing of medications to non-human patients.
Discuss important considerations for medication administration and counseling points for animal caregivers and handlers.
