In late 2022, CDC published an update to its 2016 Opioid Prescribing Guideline, the CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain – United States, 2022. The updated Guideline includes an expanded scope to include additional focus on acute and sub-acute pain as well as chronic pain and has been revised to incorporate the latest science and lessons learned from the 2016 Guideline based on feedback from patients, providers, and the public. This must-attend session will be led by Christopher Jones, PharmD, DrPH, one of the authors of the updated Guideline. The session will cover similarities and differences in recommendations between the 2016 and 2022 Guidelines, practical clinical considerations to support implementation of the Guideline, and place the updated Guideline within the context of the evolving overdose crisis.
