59½ Minutes: Deadly Outbreaks: Discussion of 2019-nCoV

Description

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that have been known to cause severe illness such as MERS and SARS. Recently, an outbreak in China of a novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, has now been detected in the United States. This virus potentially poses a public health threat through its rapid respiratory transmission. In this session, we will investigate this new virus and the implications it has on public health in the United States.

At the completion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Define coronaviruses and the 2019-nCoV.
  2. Examine the recent outbreak in Wuhan, China.
  3. Discuss the implication of 2019-nCoV on the United States and how pharmacists can play a role in protecting the public health.
