Advanced Training Programs

APhA is offering Advanced Training Programs in conjunction with APhA2018 to strengthen your career while advancing patient care. The Advanced Training Programs are stand-alone programs that: 

  • Require pre-registration as home study is required.
  • Have a separate registration fee from APhA2018.
  • Do not require APhA2018 registration to participate.
  • Often sell out prior to the registration deadline.

APhA Certificate Training Programs (CTPs)

Certificate Training Programs, officially termed practice-based activities by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), are structured and systematic post-graduate continuing pharmacy education experiences for pharmacists designed to instill, expand, or enhance practice competencies through the acquisition of specified knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance behaviors. APhA certificate training programs involve in-depth commitment on the part of learners, including both self-study and attendance at live seminar presentations.

Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate Training Program

Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services is an innovative and interactive certificate training program that explores the pharmacist’s role in providing MTM services to patients. Pharmacists have a tremendous opportunity to receive reimbursement for monitoring and improving medication use in patients with complex medication regimens. This practice-based activity teaches pharmacists the essential skills necessary to become a successful MTM practitioner. The certificate training program will enhance pharmacists’ clinical expertise in evaluating complicated medication regimens, identifying medication-related problems, and making recommendations to patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.         

Pharmacy-Based Cardiovascular Disease Risk Management Certificate Training Program

Pharmacy-Based Cardiovascular Disease Risk Management is an innovative and interactive certificate training program that explores the pharmacist’s role in cardiovascular disease risk management. This practice-based activity is the first step for pharmacists interested in learning the essential skills to successfully assess risk, promote cardiovascular disease prevention, and encourage patient adherence to therapy. 

Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate Training Program

Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery is an innovative and interactive training program that teaches pharmacists the skills necessary to become a primary source for vaccine information and administration. The program teaches the basics of immunology and focuses on practice implementation and legal/regulatory issues.

The Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care Certificate Training Program

The Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care certificate training program is a newly revised, intensive educational experience designed to equip pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to provide effective, evidence-based diabetes care. Five self-study modules provide comprehensive instruction in current diabetes concepts and standards of care. The live seminar incorporates case studies and hands-on skills training focused on the situations most likely to be encountered—as well as the services most needed—in community and ambulatory care practice settings. Participants will gain experience evaluating and adjusting drug therapy regimens for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, counseling patients about lifestyle interventions, analyzing and interpreting self-monitoring of blood glucose results, and assessing the overall health status of patients to identify needed monitoring and interventions.

APhA Advanced Competency Training (ACTs)

Advanced Competency Trainings are, like APhA’s certificate training programs, structured and systematic post-graduate continuing pharmacy education experiences for pharmacists designed to instill, expand, or enhance practice competencies through the acquisition of specified knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance behaviors. These activities provide between 4-10 hours of CPE credit and focus on one specific area of content. 

Systematic Curriculum Design and Implementation (SCDI) for Community-based Pharmacy Residency Education and Training

The Systematic Curriculum Design and Implementation (SCDI) for Community-based Pharmacy Residency Education and Training program provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to systematically design, develop and implement a community-based, longitudinal structured pharmacy residency training program by applying established principles, structure and methods from educational curriculum design and educational theory. 

Pharmacy-Based Travel Health Services Advanced Competency Training

Pharmacy-Based Travel Health Services is an innovative and interactive advanced competency training (ACT) program that explores the pharmacist’s role in providing travel health services to patients. This application-based activity is the first step for pharmacists interested in learning the essential skills necessary to successfully provide travel health services. The APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is a pre-requisite for this program.

APhA Meeting the Requirements for Residency Accreditation: PGY1 Community-based

This workshop is designed for participants who have a PGY1 community pharmacy practice residency program that is either preparing for reaccreditation, or is in candidate status for accreditation with a resident currently in the program. Participants must complete pre-work and bring to the workshop a laptop and flash drive (or similar device) with existing program materials on them. Additional prerequisites apply.

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is offering the Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacists (BCGP) Boot Camp as part of APhA2018. Designed for pharmacists preparing to take the BCGP certification exam and for BCGPs who wish to receive recertification credits, this intensive 2-day workshop applies geriatric pharmacy principles through the use of patient cases to address the three domains. Members of both APhA and ASCP are eligible to receive the member rate on this program.

APhA CTP Faculty Training Programs

Faculty training programs are intended for current license partners to train additional faculty to offer APhA's certificate training program(s) within their organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Affiliation with an APhA Licensed Partner
  • Approval from the Licensed Partner to register
  • Successful completion of the appropriate certificate training program
  • Actively involved in the provision of care covered by the certificate training program
